The Thames

Painted from a photograph, this is a sunset from a walk along the Thames.





As I began to draw the outline of these bottles for the painting I had in mind, I was fascinated by the power of the single white line and worked the painting around it.




At university I had to paint these bottles endlessly. They appear many times in my work. But a subject need never be boring. There are countless ways to interpret the image and explore the forms, textures and colours.

This is about simple solid shapes, which seem to interlock like a jigsaw. Think about the way the air, if it was visible, would wrap itself around the objects
